On Saturday, 21 February 2026, Plus27 Events had the privilege of delivering the Auto&General Xtri, hosted by Steyn City. It was a sold-out cross triathlon that brought together elite athletes, corporate partners and everyday competitors in one of South Africa’s most prestigious estates.
Importantly, the event also doubled as the South African Cross Triathlon Championships, adding national significance and competitive depth to an already premium race experience.
From first light over the lagoon to the final podium celebration, the event demonstrated what is possible when meticulous planning meets a world-class venue and strategically aligned stakeholders. As Natasha Limbert from TIH, the holding company for Auto&General, shared afterwards: “Thanks so much to everyone for a truly incredible Xtri. Best one yet.”
For our team, that feedback is the greatest measure of success.
Hosting a race that doubles as SA Champs carries additional responsibility. Athlete expectations are higher. Governing body standards are stricter. There is no margin for operational error. Our role was to ensure that every element met championship-level requirements while still delivering a premium corporate experience and a fun day out for the recreational athletes. Our team went above and beyond to ensure:
- Seamless athlete flow from registration to bag drop to all the Triathlon disciplines.
- Professional start and finish infrastructure and branding.
- Branded hospitality environments for Steyn City and Auto&General.
- High-impact sponsor activations throughout the course and on the finish venue.
- Structured prize-giving and podium moments worthy of national titles.
The Auto&General Xtri, hosted by Steyn City, attracted the strongest field to date, with most of the country’s top athletes, across elite and age group categories. This made for exciting racing, with leading positions in the elite races shifting multiple times throughout the day. The competitive intensity reflected the significance of the race, which was further boosted by the highest prize purse in local cross triathlon racing.
Steyn City is not just a venue, it is an experience. The crystal-clear lagoon, sweeping promenades, technical trails and immaculate estate infrastructure provided a spectacular and highly functional event stage.
Plus27 Events worked on this event for six months leading up to race day, and there was a lot more that happened behind the scenes:
- Stakeholder coordination between Auto&General, Steyn City and governing bodies
- Detailed marketing planning and execution on communication strategies, social media campaigns.
- We worked closely with Steyn City on the route planning, marshalling and the safety protocols
- Compliance with Sports and Recreation Act, and the TriathlonSA sanctioning
- Sponsor integration across physical and digital touchpoints, branding plans and infrastructure sourcing.
- Athlete communication, race guide production and training days facilitation.
- Sourcing and ordering of goody bags items such as towels, caps, SOX.
- On-site team management, supplier coordination and real-time operational decisions
From a participant perspective, the event felt seamless. From an operational perspective, it required strategic oversight and disciplined execution at every level.
What Success Looks Like From Our Perspective
For Plus27 Events, success is not defined only by attendance or engagement metrics, although both were strong. It is defined by:
- Athlete experience
- Stakeholder satisfaction
- Championship-level compliance
- Sponsor value
- Venue alignment
- Brand elevation
When a holding company representative describes the event as “the best one yet,” particularly in a year where the race carried SA Champs status, it reflects growth, refinement and strategic evolution year on year.
